Chris Matthews spoke passionately about the need for diplomacy over military action in Syria on Tuesday night. Immediately after President Obama’s address to the nation, where he asserted that a diplomatic option was on the table, Matthews told his MSNBC co-hosts: “We may say it’s not an act of war, but to the people we’re bombing it would be an act of war.”
“Killing does not make the killer look any worse if you’re killing those people. It doesn’t work that way,” he continued. Instead, “why don’t we become the champions of fighting these weapons of mass destruction? I think that would be a great cause, and I think we’d really win the international argument, far better than putting kids in hospitals by the hundreds.”
