It’s a fast developing situation between the Israelis and the Palestinians today. News outlets reported that a cease-fire between the two sides is on the horizon. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was scheduled to meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu Tuesday to oversee any deal between the two.
“United States is not there, right in the thick of it, advising people to calm down and negotiating a deal,” Time magazine’s Bobby Ghosh told Chris Jansing. “That role is now passed on to Egypt. But, no deal will actually work without United States signing off on it.”
While both parties say a deal is in sight, Ghosh says,” There’s no talk of how long the cease-fire is going to last, whether this is going to be a temporary measure and whether there’s going to be any follow-up talks. He says,” it’s not enough to stop shooting, it is necessary to start talking and until that happens there’s always a likelihood that the violence will start again.”
