Rush Limbaugh is now an award-winning author.
The conservative radio host earlier this week received the Children’s Choice Book Award for author of the year, according to the Associated Press.
“This is unexpected, but it’s a thrill,” Limbaugh said at the awards ceremony Wednesday night. “I love America. I wish everybody did. I hope everybody will.”
Limbaugh’s nomination was made public in March for his book, “Rush Revere and the Brave Pilgrims.” Book sales determined the nominees, and kids voted online to choose the winners. But, as the AP noted, adults could also weigh in and vote multiple times.
Limbaugh’s fictional book, published last October, tells the story of a middle-school history teacher named Rush Revere, who travels back in time to experience American history.
He trumped four other finalists for author of the year, including Jeff Kinney, who wrote “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Hard Luck;” Rick Riordan, for “The House of HadesVeronica Roth;” Veronica Roth, author of “Allegiant;” and Rachel Renee Russell, creator of “Dork Diaries 6: Tales from a Not-So-Happy Heartbreaker.”
