The brutal heat wave that has gripped East Coast residents for much of July hit record temperature highs on Friday. Three locations in the tri-state area including New York City’s LaGuardia Airport recorded all-time high temps of 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
In many cases the temperature has become too hot to handle. Employees at a New York City McDonald’s walked out after having worked without air conditioning. One of their coworkers collapsed from the heat, Greg Basta, deputy director of New York Communities for Change, tweeted Friday.
In Jersey City, N.J., over 25 firefighters had to be treated for heat exhaustion after battling a blaze in the sweltering weather, WNBC confirmed.
The good news is that the weekend is supposed to bring an end to these searing temperatures. The bad news is that it will be severe thunderstorms and possibly tornados that bring the relief.
