- Carly Fiorina’s past remarks regarding Muslims have resurfaced, causing fellow conservatives to lash out at the newly popular GOP candidate. The former Hewlett-Packard CEO gave the speech on September 26, 2001 to express her concern over the safety of her Middle Eastern colleagues, after a slew of hate crimes aimed at Muslim, South Asian, and Arab Americans were committed in the two weeks prior to her speech. Now, Fiorina is facing her fellow conservatives who accused her of “praising Muslims” in her remarks from 14 years ago.
- For the first time in history, two women successfully completed the Army’s elite Ranger school. This combat training course, which consists of limited meals, sleep deprivation, and physical tests in harsh conditions, is one of the toughest combat training courses in the world, the Army said on Monday. 400 soldiers in total started the course on April 20, 19 of whom were women. However, only 96 were successful.
- In an exclusive MSNBC video that was released yesterday, Black Lives Matter protesters confront Hillary Clinton after a Town Hall she hosted in New Hampshire last week. When the protesters arrived, they were denied entrance since the main room was already at capacity and instead, they sat in the overflow room. However, Clinton campaign workers arranged a private meeting between the protesters and Clinton. During the 15 minute discussion, the protesters confronted the presidential hopeful in part about former President Bill Clinton’s policies which gave rise to the rates of mass incarceration during his time as president. Hillary Clinton is the third Democratic presidential candidate to be confronted by Black Lives Matter protesters.
- Scott Walker will announce his plan to repeal and replace Obamacare on Tuesday at a machine shop in Minneapolis. In his first major policy speech of his campaign, Walker will announce his “Day One Patient Freedom Plan” which would be enacted on Walker’s first day as President. The plan, the Walker campaign says, would lower insurance premiums by up to 25% by eliminating Obamacare regulations.
- The Iran deal has support from the GOP. Despite the fact that there are no congressional Republican supporting the bill – the only Republicans with a vote on the bill – many right leaning politicians outside of Capitol Hill have expressed their support for the bill. Influential foreign relations politician, former Sen. Richard Lugar, said he does not want to see the Iran deal derailed. Additionally, Brent Scowcroft, former chairman of George W. Bush’s Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board, has also expressed support for the deal.
