Count former Vice President Dick Cheney among the many Americans who have seen “Zero Dark Thirty.”
The Reno Gazette-Journal reports Cheney “mostly liked” the Oscar-nominated film about the hunt for Osama bin Laden, but “didn’t agree with its depiction of harsh CIA interrogations.”
The former vice president, 71, made the comments during a rare public appearance at the Safari Club International convention in Reno over the weekend.
He said scenes depicted in the movie “never took place” and made it clear that the Bush administration was “very careful” to stay within the bounds of international law, echoing earlier statements in which he denied the use of torture while hailing the intelligence gains resulting from “enhanced interrogation techniques.”
Vice President Cheney’s daughter, Liz Cheney—a former State Department official who appeared at the convention for hunting enthusiasts alongside her father—however took a shot at President Obama.
“It’s too bad the president is not as dedicated to disarming al Qaida as he is to disarming American citizens,” she said.
