We feel like we’ve been saying this for a while now… but this time we mean it: Newt Gingrich has really, really, NOW, taken the gloves off. The Teddy Bear is Angry. As Stephen Colbert put it last night, he looks like he wants to stick a sharp screw driver into Mitt Romney’s lung.
And why wouldn’t he? After weeks of negative attacks against Gingrich, and a new CNN/ORC poll today showing Romney’s electability at a whopping 65% with Gingrich down to 9%.
But the Teddy Bear (again) blames the media for what is an actual, legitimate poll.
“I find it amazing the news media continues to say he’s the most electable Republican when he can’t even break out in his own party.”
So he’s out with his own new ad: calling himself “Bold” and Romney a “timid” moderate who has run a campaign of falsehoods.
But then there’s Nice Newt. Who is trying this opposite approach on Rick Santorum. Praising him after Santorum’s caucus showing:
“I want to congratulate a very good friend of ours, somebody who we admire, whose family we admire, and that’s Rick Santorum, he waged a great, positive campaign. I served with Rick, we had a great relationship over the years and I admire the courage, the disicipline, the way he focused and I also admire how positive it was. I wish I could say that for all the candidates.”
And even telling Laura Ingrahm that he and Santorum can form an alliance and take-down Mitt Romney.
With Romney getting a John McCain endorsement… it looks like this game of doubles is ON.
