No criminal charges will be filed against George Zimmerman over an incident that occurred between him and his estranged wife last month, according to officials.
“At this time there is insufficient evidence to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Mr. Zimmerman is the individual responsible for the theft of said property,” the Lake Mary Police Department in Florida concluded in a report.
Police were investigating whether or not Zimmerman might have taken property from his in-laws’ home he and his wife were living in at one time, including a television and furniture.
Shellie Zimmerman called 911 during the dispute, which came only a few days after she had filed for divorce, and told the dispatcher that her estranged husband was “threatening” her and her father with his gun while they argued over property. Police said afterward that there was no gun.
She decided not to press charges, but said weeks later she regretted that decision.
George Zimmerman was acquitted earlier this year of second-degree murder and manslaughter charges in the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.
