On Tuesday House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI) revealed his budget plan during a news conference. According to Rep. Ryan, his plan would balance the budget by 2023 and bring $4.6 trillion in savings over the next ten years.
As a divide continues to deepen in Congress, President Obama has a series of meetings with both the Democrats and Republicans on Capitol Hill. He hopes to broker some sort of agreement. On Tuesday he met with Senate Democrats and today it is the House Republicans’ turn. Tomorrow Senate Republicans and House Democrats will get their time with the president. While both sides are presenting their budget plans, Americans are still waiting for the president’s plan. The White House has said will be unveiled the week of April 8th, two months later than expected. This marks the first time in 92 years that Congress has kicked off the budget process, not the president.
According to a new Washington Post/ABC poll 54% of Americans trust the president to fix the economy compared to only 36% who believe congressional republicans can fix the problems we face. But, with his approval rating on a decline, President Obama can’t afford to let any partisan politics decide the economic climate.
