A number of developments to tell you about on the campaign to recall Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker:
Pressure increased today for the state elections board to post online the petitions seeking to recall Walker.
The Government Accountability Board promised to post them online for the public to see Monday. But that was indefinitely delayed when domestic violence victims expressed concern over their names and addresses being released, board spokesman Reid Magney said.
The decision drew a strong backlash from some key Republicans, including Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen, who issued a statement today saying the signatures should be made public.
Still, the GAB gave Walker’s campaign electronic copies of the petitions containing an estimated 1 million signatures on Friday.
Isn’t it a bit creepy that the GOP is so anxious to see those names and addresses go public?
Meantime, the recall election against Walker could cost $100 million or more.
Just recently, Walker was able to raise $4.5 million in just over a month. He has raised $12 million since January 1, 2011, and has over $2.6 million on hand.
And two former legislators and a veteran state representative say they’ll challenge a trio of Republican state senators also targeted in the recall.
Democrats angry over Republican support for Walker’s contentious collective bargaining bill have mounted recall attempts against Sens. Terry Moulton of Chippewa Falls, Pam Galloway of Wausau, Van Wanggaard of Racine and Scott Fitzgerald of Juneau.
State election officials have until March 19 to determine if enough signatures were submitted in each race, including Walker and Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch, to hold recall elections.
