University of Missouri police said early Wednesday they have apprehended a suspect who allegedly posted threats to the campus on social media.
“Have apprehended suspect who used multiple accts to threat @Mizzou students,” R. Bowen Loftin, the outgoing chancellor of the university system’s flagship campus in Columbia, said on Twitter. “He was never physically near campus.”

Loftin and Tim Wolfe, the president of the University of Missouri, both resigned Monday after criticism of the administration’s response to a series of racial incidents on campus.
University police said Tuesday it confirmed that a “phoned-in threat” was made earlier in the day to the Black Culture Center on campus. The building was locked down and searched, but nothing suspicious was found and there were no arrests, police said.
A few dorms on campus were seen to have security notices Tuesday night notifying visitors that only those with identification for the buildings would be allowed inside.
