Former San Diego mayor Bob Filner (D) was sentenced to three years probation Monday after pleading guilty to criminal charges in October.
The ex-mayor was charged with one felony count for false imprisonment and two counts of misdemeanor battery after facing months of sexual harrassment allegations, in which nearly 20 women came forward to accuse Filner of sexual misconduct.
Filner was also sentenced to three months home confinement beginning Jan. 1, and has been ordered to have no contact with the three victims, listed as Jane Does 1, 2, and 3 while on probation. Filner will also be barred from seeking public office and must undergo mental health treatment under court supervision.
In a statement to the court, Filner issued an apology and promised to reform his behavior. “I want to apologize to my family who has stood by me during this ordeal, to my loyal staff, and to the citizens. And most sincerely to the women I have hurt and offended. I look forward to making further contributions to the city that I love.”
After a leave of absence and “intensive therapy” in July, Filner resigned as mayor in August.
Though Filner will not go to jail as part of his sentencing, he could face up to six months if he violates his probation.
