Spring is in the air. Flowers are blooming. The sun is shining. And Bao Bao gets to play outside!
For the first time Tuesday morning, the beloved panda cub explored her mom’s outdoor habitat. “It’s a great big world outside and soon it will have a little Bao Bao in it,” the National Zoo website said earlier this week. “Bao Bao will be given the option to explore outside with her mother if the temperature is at least 35 degrees Fahrenheit with no precipitation.”

On Tuesday the weather agreed and Bao Bao headed outside to the “cub proofed” giant panda yard. “Giant pandas are very adept climbers, and cubs especially spend time climbing trees,” the website says. “The trees in Mei Xiang’s yard have been collared, and some tree limbs have been trimmed for Bao Bao’s safety.”
The National Zoo documented our favorite panda cub’s outdoor adventure. Watch!
