Monday night on All In with Chris Hayes: As the battle continues in Congress over his campaign to defund Obamacare, Senator Ted Cruz is taking heat from all sides. The Republican bill Cruz pushed for, continuing government spending at current levels until December 15 and stripping funding for the president’s health care law, passed the House last week but is expected to be ripped apart in the Senate. A profile by GQ painted Cruz in a less than positive light, referring to him as “The Distinguished Wacko Bird from Texas.” GQ also spoke with one of Cruz’s old law school roommates, who revealed the Senator’s snobbish behavior, including refusing to study with students who hadn’t attended Harvard, Princeton or Yale for their undergraduate degrees. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, Democrat from Rhode Island, and Michael Steele, MSNBC Contributor and former RNC Chairman, will join Chris Hayes to discuss the latest Ted Cruz backlash.
Chris Hayes will also talk with Jeremy Scahill, National Security Correspondent for The Nation, about this weekend’s attack on a Kenyan shopping mall. A Somalian Islamist group with ties to al-Qaeda, Al Shabaab, took responsibility for the attack on Nairobi’s Westgate Mall. So far, 62 people have been killed in the continuing siege.
Later, Chris will fact check some of the claims being thrown around about Obamacare as implementation is set to begin next week. Opponents of the Affordable Care Act have blamed the law for an increase in part time jobs, since employers with at least 50 full-time workers will have to offer them health insurance or pay a fee. However, the data show the share of part-time jobs has not increased approaching the implementation of the employer mandate.
Plus: Alec MacGillis, Senior Editor of The New Republic, will join Chris to talk about this week’s Clinton Family relaunch—and the wrench the former president threw into the public relations plan. MacGillis recently published a profile detailing sleazy behavior from Bill Clinton’s right-hand man just as Hillary Clinton’s first post-Secretary of State interview with New York Magazine hit the stands.
