Nicole Hockley, whose six-year-old son Dylan was killed in the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School just nine months ago, said she feels the pain of the victim’s families after Monday’s shooting at Navy Yard.
“I think right now we need to take a moment and pause and just grieve for those families, for those adults that were lost yesterday,” Hockley told Andrea Mitchell Tuesday. “But then after that moment has passed, it’s really time to stop and just set the reset button, go back to the starting point and come together for a serious dialogue about these issues.”
Hockley has since become an outspoken advocate for gun control, and has lobbied the White House and Congress to pass gun reforms.
“I don’t think they have moved on to other issues,” Hockley said of the Obama administration’s efforts to stem gun violence in the country. “This conversation is alive and ongoing. And certainly for people like me and other family members and people across America, this issue has not moved on at all since 12/14.”
“People may have died, children and adults may have died, this issue has not died, and this conversation needs to be renewed,” Hockley said.
