What’s that, Jay Carney? “President Clinton?”
The White House Press Secretary had a slip-of-the-tongue in Wednesday’s briefing that had the White House Press Corps chuckling, just hours after Secretary of State (and possible 2016 presidential candidate) Hillary Clinton testified before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee over the attack in Benghazi.
Q: “…If you could square those two, saying al Qaeda central command has been decimated, even as al Qaeda-affiliated groups may be growing.”
Carney: “I think you can square it by stating it clearly, which Secretary of State Clinton did, and which President Clinton has, and I have, and others.”
Carney corrected himself after reporters called him out on the slip. You can watch it (plus a lip-sync joke!) above.
As Secretary Hillary Clinton steps down from her post as the nation’s top diplomat, she enjoys an overwhelming 69% job approval rating, higher than any other outgoing secretary of state in recent history aside from Colin Powell, according to the latest NBC/Wall Street Journal poll.
