The tea party-backed candidate hoping to unseat House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, has lost his teaching job over a campaign ad he released earlier this month, according to The Washington Post.
J.D. Winteregg’s campaign ad, a parody of an erectile dysfunction medication commercial, went viral after the congressional hopeful put the video on YouTube. The ad suggested Boehner’s long career in Washington led to “electile dysfunction” among his constituents, and it suggested the only remedy is to elect a Washington outsider.
“Used on a daily basis, Winteregg in Congress will help you every time the moment is right to have your voice heard at the federal level. When using Winteregg, it’s important to note that the borders will be secured, Second Amendment rights protected, Obamacare and Planned Parenthood will be defunded, and common sense will be used in solving the nation’s problems,” the ad said.
But while Winteregg’s campaign ad may have been trying to produce laughs, one group wasn’t amused: Cedarville University, a small Christian college where Winteregg has been an adjunct professor for three years.
“They said because of the ad that my relationship with them will be done. It’s over,” Winteregg told The Washington Post. “The ad obviously touched a nerve.”
A spokesperson for Cedarville University told The Post that Winteregg’s ad “did not represent the views or values of Cedarville University.”
