NSA leaker Edward Snowden — who’s been charged by the U.S. government with espionage — has left Hong Kong for Moscow, but his whereabouts now are unknown. He was expected to be on a flight to Havana, but he wasn’t on board. And his escape is being aided by WikiLeaks and perhaps by Russian officials, who are playing coy about Snowden’s location.
Today could be a decision day at the U.S. Supreme Court, and one of the cases that could be decided is about the landmark Voting Rights Act. The Court is set to decide the constitutionally of Section 5 of the 1965 act, which requires states and municipalities with a history of racial discrimination to seek Justice Department approval — or “preclearance” — before making any changes to voting. The act affects nine states — mostly in the South — and parts of several others.
