Drivers are feeling new pain at the pump. The price of gasoline has reached a four-month high and is expected to keep rising as we head into the summer driving season.
The Automobile Association of America says the national average for regular is now $3.75 a gallon. That’s a 15-cent jump from a week ago. And just a month ago, we were paying nearly 14% less for a fill-up, at $3.30 a gallon. The price spike is being fueled by several refinery shutdowns, according to AAA.
Gas prices have been climbing steadily for more than a month. If the trend continues, experts say the cost of a fill-up could top the all-time record of $4.11 set in the summer of 2008.
