There is no question Vice President Joe Biden is one of the president’s most frequent lunch guests at the White House. The men often dine together when the schedule permits. There is also no questioning Biden’s fierce loyalty to his boss and friend.
So when the vice president made a high-profile visit to Costco today—the very same day Mitt Romney was scheduled to dine with President Obama—it got us wondering: Was the vice president taking a subtle jab at the man who tried to sell himself to American voters as “the Costco candidate”?
Of course, there is an economic element to Biden’s Costco visit—a Christmas season photo op with the CEO of major retail chain, a CEO who personally spoke to the president just one week after the election, urging a balanced solution to avoid middle class tax increases.
Sure, it could be coincidence. But Costco seems a bit loaded to us. Remember when Mitt Romney, in one of the few sit-down interviews he sat for with his wife Ann, described his love of 3-pack of Kirkland shirts?
“He’s wearing them all the time now,” Ann insisted, hyper aware of her husband’s inability to strike a common man note. “Hey, that shirt looks pretty good. I got them at Costco.”
In the end, neither enough Wal-Mart moms nor Costco dads came out for the Romney-Ryan ticket. And that means four more years of Obama-Biden lunches.
