Joe Biden became even more hip this week.
The vice president posted his first selfie with President Obama just hours after joining photo-sharing app Instagram.
“Found a friend to join my first selfie on Instagram. Thanks for following and stay tuned,” he wrote on Wednesday in his first selfie post.
More than 52,000 users had followed Biden’s account, which had four posts, as of Thursday morning.
Creating an account on the website is the vice president’s latest move on social media. Last week he began tweeting again, as Democrats hit the 2014 campaign trail for the midterm elections.
Red Sox slugger David Ortiz created a selfie controversy at the White House earlier this month when he snapped a photograph with the president. White House officials consequently threatened to prevent the public from taking selfies with Obama after the baseball player allegedly took the picture from his Samsung cell phone as a marketing promotion for the telephone company.
A dozen celebrities broke the selfie retweet record at the Oscars last month after host Ellen DeGeneres snapped a group photograph. Other leaders and politicians have since copied the comedian’s model, including Pope Francis who posed for a selfie with visitors at the Vatican last August, and Obama, who sat with British Prime Minister David Cameron and Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt during the memorial for the former and late South African President Nelson Mandela.
