The Weekly Standard’s Bill Kristol isn’t worried about the record-low approval ratings his party is facing.
“There’s a ridiculous amount of hysteria among Republicans and among donors across the country,” Kristol said. “They’re now in total meltdown and panic as if a two week shutdown that basically had no effect on anything in October 2013 is gonna make a difference a year from now.”
The effect of the two week shutdown is estimated by others to be quite extensive: Moody’s Analytics now estimates the shutdown will shrink fourth quarter growth from 2.5% to 2.0% and cost $20 billion; the White House said the two weeks will cost the country 120,000 jobs in the first half of October.
But Kristol said the real threat is Obamacare.
“Two months from now, the minor derailment of the shutdown will look like nothing compared to the train wreck of Obamacare,” Kristol said on Wednesday’s Morning Joe.
