Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, who along with his older brother, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, is accused of bombing the Boston Marathon, said Wednesday that Tamerlan’s widow, Katherine Russell, was not involved in the attack, NBC News reported.
“We were not surprised by news reports today that Katie played no role in the event of April 15,” Russell’s lawyer, Amato DeLuca, said in a statement Wednesday. “Further, Katie plans to continue to meet with investigators, part of a series of meetings over many hours where she has answered questions.”
Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, was killed in a shootout with police days after the bombing that left three dead and more than 200 injured. Russell, originally from Providence, R.I., shared a Cambridge apartment with her husband, their three-year-old daughter, and 19-year-old Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.
Law enforcement officials were still investigating Russell, NBC News reported.
In a statement released Thursday, the Worcester Police Department said that Tsarnaev’s remains had finally been buried.
“As a result of our public appeal for help, a courageous and compassionate individual came forward to provide the assistance needed to properly bury the deceased,” the statement said.
Last week, the director of the funeral home where Tsarnaev’s body was kept said that cemeteries across Massachusetts had refused to bury him.
