Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump has long been the subject of parody, but a new group is now getting in on the action: Mexican comedians.
A new play, “Sons of Trump,” fires back at Trump’s remarks that Mexicans are drug dealers, criminals and rapists. The show, which stars popular Mexican actors, premiered on Friday to a packed theater in Mexico City.
One of the show’s comedians, Freddy Ortega, told Reuters that Trump’s remarks and growing popularity have caused a lot of pain, and humor is a way for Mexicans to ease that sting. “As we say here, if you dish it out, you’ve got to be able to take it,” he said.

“Sons of Trump” begins with a large projection of a $100 bill with Trump’s face in the middle. The digital projection then greets the audience with “Welcome, frijoleros!” which is an anti-Mexican slur that translates to “beaner” or “one who makes beans.”
The play sets up Trump’s philosophy as “steal, kill and blame others,” and through various sketches, the comedians portray Trump as a greedy, ugly American. There is little dialogue and most of the humor comes from the physical portrayals of the real estate mogul.
The show is booked for six weeks in Mexico City, and the producers hope to take it to cities in the United States, including Los Angeles and Chicago.
This is not the first time people have retaliated against Trump for his racist comments.
A candy wholesale store in Los Angeles began selling nearly 5-foot-tall Trump pinatas after they became popular in Mexico over the summer.
Since Trump’s comments about Mexicans at his campaign announcement, he has also repeatedly spoke about his intentions to build a wall at the U.S.-Mexico border and called for an end to birthright citizenship.
While Trump still leads in the polls, his margin has narrowed in recent months, and according to a recent survey, nearly 75% of Latino voters have negative views of him.
