Sandra Fluke is moving ahead with a run for Rep. Henry Waxman’s California House seat.
The Washington Post reported Tuesday that the women’s rights advocate has filed for the endorsement of the state Democratic Party, although she has not filed with the Federal Election Commission or officially announced her candidacy. The party will make its official endorsement next month at its convention.
The primary will be held on June 3.
Fluke, 32, gained national name recognition in 2012 after conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh called her a “slut” because she testified about the financial and emotional hardship she faced because Georgetown Law School’s student health plan did not cover birth control. Since then she has been a regular presence at events
Waxman, a legendary champion of progressive causes , announced on January 30 that he would not seek reelection. The 74 year old is currently serving his 20th term in office and is the ranking member on the powerful Energy and Commerce Committee. Two other candidates are already in the running for the seat.
