Today’s installment of campaign-related news items from across the country.
* The latest Reuters/Ipsos poll found Kamala Harris narrowly leading Donald Trump, 46% to 43%, which was roughly identical to the outlet’s poll from last week. (Click the link for additional information on the survey’s methodology and margin of error.)
* The news was better for Republicans in Georgia, where the latest Atlanta Journal-Constitution/University of Georgia poll showed the former president ahead of the Democratic vice president, 47% to 43%. Four years ago, Trump narrowly lost the state. (Click the link for additional information on the survey’s methodology and margin of error.)
* After Trump compared Jan. 6 rioters to the victims of the Japanese internment camps, many leaders from the Japanese-American community were not pleased.
* With time running out in the election cycle, Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson is accusing conspiratorial billionaire Elon Musk of spreading “dangerous disinformation” about voting in her state — and she appears to be correct.
* On a related note, the world’s wealthiest man is also hosting a daily $1 million lottery for registered voters in swing states, which might not be legal.
* In Alaska, Democratic Rep. Mary Peltola has picked up an important endorsement: Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski now supports the incumbent congresswoman’s re-election campaign.
* The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget released an analysis that found Trump’s agenda, if implemented, would quickly deplete the Social Security Trust Fund.
* If you heard bizarre abuse allegations about Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz last week, it won’t surprise you to learn that they’re false. Just as notable, however, is that Wired magazine reported that the claims didn’t originate with Republicans: They reportedly came from a Russia-aligned network.
