Monday morning, Americans woke up to the news that a key bipartisan group of senators reached a deal on a basic idea for comprehensive immigration reform. The proposal is expected to be unveiled today and includes these four goals:
–Create a tough but fair path to citizenship for illegal immigrants that contingent on border security
–Reform our legal immigration system to help build the economy
–Create an effective employment verification system
–Establish an improved process for admitting future workers to serve our nation’s workforce needs
President Obama is also due in Las Vegas Tuesday to unveil his own immigration plan. The topic is joining a long list of contentious issues in Washington that includes gun reform and the battle over the debt ceiling and federal budget. But how important is this issue to the American people? A recent AP poll shows that 62% favor a path to citizenship for illegal immigrant already in the U.S. A Gallup poll shows that 66% say that immigration is a good thing for country. Where do you stand on the issue?
