The majority of Americans have blamed Republicans for the government shutdown according to an NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll, but House Republican freshman, Rep. Luke Messer from Indiana, believes that the future perspective of Republicans during these past few weeks depends on the success of the Affordable Care Act.
Messer told guest host Luke Russert on Friday’s The Daily Rundown, “If Obamacare’s a roaring success, then it will be viewed probably a lot like some view it today, but if Obamacare – if the rates go up, if it continues to not work, I think it could be viewed very differently.”
Messer, who joined 143 other Republican representatives, including tea party leaders Paul Ryan, Michele Bachmann and Steve King, voted no to Wednesday’s short-term bill that opened the government.
“I voted against the deal because I thought it was a bad deal for the American people” said the Indiana Rep. “Right now we’re looking at taxing people on signing up on a website that doesn’t work, that’s not right.”
