“There is extensive documentation of the significant coastal erosion that has been going on for decades in Louisiana. Specifically, Cat Island was rapidly eroding before the Deepwater Horizon accident in 2010, primarily due to erosion from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Cat Island continues to decrease in surface area each year. Also, in the winter of 2009-2010 a heavy freeze killed above-ground portions of mangroves and other vegetation on some of the barrier islands in the area.
As part of the Natural Resources Damages (NRD) assessment, we are working in cooperation with the Deepwater Horizon Trustees to assess potential damage to natural resources such as barrier islands and develop projects to restore any damage resulting from the Deepwater Horizon accident.”
