Marriage equality took center stage Tuesday at the Supreme Court as the court heard a oral arguments on whether to uphold California’s Prop 8 ban on same-sex marriage. After today’s court proceedings, many legal experts now say it appears there will not be a sweeping gay marriage ruling and any decisions will likely apply only to the state of California. David Boies, arguing on behalf of the gay plaintiffs, said no one made an argument for discriminating against gays – to him, it seems more like a matter of how, not if.
